Champaign Co., IL Sesquicentennial Celebration
Pioneer Certificate Applications
Champaign County Genealogical Society
In observance of the Champaign Co., IL Sesquicentennial in 1983, the Champaign County Genealogical Society issued Pioneer Certificates to anyone proving that they had an ancestor residing in Champaign Co. between 1833 and 1883, or prior to the formation of the county on February 20, 1833.
The purpose of the original Pioneer Certificate project was not only to celebrate the Sesquicentennial but also to gather information on relatively unknown pioneers, to promote public interest in genealogy, and to preserve the accumulated information by publishing this pioneer book. With the publication of this book, the Champaign Genealogical Society will begin a second Pioneer Certificate Program.
