Sidney By-Way Newspaper BMD Index

The Sidney By-way was a weekly newspaper published from 1886 to 1905 in Sidney, Illinois. It started as a 4-page newspaper and cost 10 cents per month. Initially, the newspaper was issued on Friday but after 6 months of publication, the Sidney By-way was printed Friday night and issued on Saturday. During the publication years, the newspaper was distributed on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday and was 2 or 4 pages in length.

CCGS is extracting births, marriages, and deaths (BMD) from the Sidney By-way and transcribing the entries. The transcriptions are being published in the CCGS Quarterly and posted to the members-only section of the website. Also, the transcriptions are indexed by surname and the year the Sidney By-way newspaper was published. Below are the birth, marriage, and death indexes for the records transcribed to date. The marriage index is organized by the groom’s surname and the bride’s surname follows the dash.
